A Legacy of Impact and Growth

Since its founding in 1999, Oguta National Association USA (ONA-USA) has been committed to unity, development, and cultural preservation. Over the years, we have accomplished remarkable feats that have transformed lives, empowered communities, and strengthened our heritage.

From educational scholarships to healthcare initiatives, infrastructure development, and community support, our achievements reflect our passion for service and our dedication to the Oguta people.

Here are some of our major milestones:

Building Strong Foundations (1999-2005)

1999 – ONA-USA was officially formed in Atlanta, Georgia, with a clear mission to unite Oguta indigenes in the USA and support development projects in Oguta.

2000 – Constitution drafting began, and key committees were established to oversee projects like water supply, security, and a civic center in Oguta.

 2001 – The association’s official constitution was adopted, solidifying the structure of ONA-USA.

 

 2002 – The Oguta National Scholarship Fund was created, awarding its first educational grants to support students.

 2003 – ONA-USA launched its first official website, making member engagement and project updates more accessible.

2004-2005 – A major water system renovation at Oguta General Hospital was completed. The association also awarded multiple university scholarships to deserving students.

Expanding Our Reach & Impact (2006-2015)

2006 – ONA-USA obtained tax-exempt status, ensuring sustainability for future projects. The association also donated motorcycles to Oguta’s security forces, enhancing safety.

 2007-2009 – More scholarships and financial aid programs were introduced, helping countless students in Oguta pursue higher education. A container full of educational books was shipped to schools in Oguta.

2010 – Water stations and boreholes were constructed in Oguta, providing clean drinking water to the community.

 

2011-2012 – The association played a key role in addressing security concerns in Oguta, working with local leaders and law enforcement.

 2013-2015 – ONA-USA partnered with other Oguta organizations worldwide to improve security, education, and social welfare. The renovation of the first primary school in Oguta began.

A Decade of Transformation (2016-Present)

2016-2019 – The association continued its school renovation projects, upgrading classrooms, libraries, and facilities in Oguta’s primary schools.

2020 – In response to COVID-19, ONA-USA provided food relief to all 27 villages in Oguta, ensuring that no family went hungry during the crisis. Additionally, 50 brand-new desktop computers were donated to Maria Assumpta Girls’ High School in Oguta.

 

 2021-2022 – More food aid was provided to the community, and the association raised over $5,000 to assist victims of the 2022 Oguta flooding, distributing funds across all 27 villages.

2023 – ONA-USA launched the Oguta Ad Hoc Teachers Initiative, supporting teachers and improving education in Oguta. The association also contributed ₦5 million to the “Oguta Light Up” project, bringing electricity and improved infrastructure to the town.

Our journey is far from over! ONA-USA continues to expand its impact, unite its members, and champion development projects that uplift Oguta indigenes in the U.S. and back home.
